WHAT IS SAFFIRE FREYCINET?
Saffire Freycinet is Australia’s luxury coastal sanctuary and opened its doors in June 2010. It features 20 luxurious suites, exclusive day spa, restaurant, guest lounge and bar. Saffire is a celebration of the art of service, internal and external wellbeing, local culinary delights, ancient landscapes and abundant wildlife.
Discreetly positioned overlooking the Hazards Mountains, Freycinet Peninsula and the pristine waters of Great Oyster Bay, Saffire blends mankind and nature with breathtaking beauty.
The heart of Saffire is its unique and internationally acclaimed service given by its team members. Saffire has 65 staff members in the winter, with just over 100 in the summer months. Last year, Saffire’s staff list covered 20 nationalities, with the majority coming from mainland Australia. The common thread linking them all was a passion for the art of hospitality, and a genuine love of connecting with some amazing people. Ben originally worked in a Front Office role at our sister property The Henry Jones Art Hotel in Hobart and transferred to Saffire as Guest Services Manager in November 2013.

I started my hospitality career with the federal group at one of our sister properties, and within just over 12 months had been successful in receiving a promotion and completed my certificate 3 in Hospitality. Due to this encouraged training and advancement, I was then able to successfully apply to transfer to a more senior position of Guest Services Manager at Saffire where I am currently working. Saffire for me has been the most challenging role of my career to date, but that’s why I love it. Also, the business is very flexible and accommodating. I’m from Hobart originally, and like to travel back to my home town on my days off. The people at Saffire are without a doubt the business’s most valuable asset, and I’m able to work with, and form friendships with a really amazing group of hard working people who love what they do, and who come from all over the world. In Summary, Saffire for me is the perfect place to up skill, learn, be challenged, and rewarded, all whilst working in a stunning facility on the edge of Australia’s First, (and in my opinion Most beautiful) national park.”
Commenced employment in 2012 for the summer season. Michelle left the hotel for a period of time and returned in 2013 in a permanent position as a Spa Therapist.

Saffire is by far my favourite resort. It is the one I have returned to, the one I have worked at the longest and the one I am settling in. I love the Saffire life.”
Federal Hotels Ltd began in Victoria in 1885 and is the world’s second oldest hotel group. Chairman of Federal Hotels Ltd in 1969, Mr Greg Farrell Snr, was a man of vision and in that year purchased the Wrest Point Riveria Hotel on Hobart’s River Derwent. Mr Farrell Snr’s dream was for Wrest Point Riviera Hotel to become Australia’s first legal casino – a dream that materialised with the opening of Wrest Point in 1973.

Where is Saffire?
- based on the East Coast of Tasmania
- a 10 minute drive from the holiday town of Coles Bay
- 2.5 hours drive (195km) from both Hobart in the South of the state and Launceston in the North
Coles Bay is one of Tasmania’s most popular holiday spots and has a permanent population of less than 200. Coles Bay is the home of Wineglass Bay which was voted as one of the top 10 beaches in the world.

At the end of 2014, a total of 68 people were employed at Saffire. This number comprised of 28 full-time employees and 40 casual employees. An additional 35 casual staff members are employed on 4 month seasonal contracts from December to March to assist during our peak season. Professional development and training begins on the very first day at Saffire.
